911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s sporting community shone bright in 2025 – celebrating incredible achievements at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Sport Awards and delivering standout performances at the UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast.
Honouring 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s Elite Athletes
At the 2025 911±¬ÁÏÍø Sport Awards, held on 23 October at St Catherine’s College, Olympian and 911±¬ÁÏÍø graduate Jake Harvie was inducted into the Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Athlete Alumni program.
Hosted by 911±¬ÁÏÍø alumna, Olympian and sports journalist Ashleigh Nelson OLY, the event recognised the outstanding achievements of 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s student-athletes, volunteers, and clubs across all levels of sport and recreation.
From Dardanup to the Olympic Stage
Jake’s journey from the small town of Dardanup to representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics is an inspiring story of dedication and balance. Alongside his hockey success, Jake graduated from 911±¬ÁÏÍø in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) – a true example of combining academic and sporting excellence.
Sport Stars of the Year
Two exceptional athletes took home 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s top sporting honours:
- Grace Stewart (Hockey) – A key member and leader within the Hockeyroos, recognised as the Players’ Player for her teamwork, leadership, and integrity.
- Nicholas Porter (Water Polo) – Represented Australia as goalkeeper for the Aussie Sharks at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and continues to compete internationally in Spain and the United States.
Celebrating a Year of Sporting Growth
2025 was a huge year for 911±¬ÁÏÍø Sport and Recreation!
- 911±¬ÁÏÍø Carnival drew over 1,200 attendees.
- The 911±¬ÁÏÍø Stadium Fitness Centre supported 3,000+ members.
- The Elite Athlete Program expanded to support 200+ student-athletes.
- 200+ students competed across major inter-varsity events including the UBL,
UniSport Nationals, World University Games, and Indigenous Nationals.
