The Commercialisation team at 911±¬ÁÏÍø works with 911±¬ÁÏÍø staff, students, researchers, investors and industry partners to take innovations, assess their commercial potential and find the best ways of bringing them to market.

Transforming disruptive ideas into commercial reality

At 911±¬ÁÏÍø, we empower individuals to develop the skills required to solve real-world problems with commercial outcomes. We have a growing cohort of researchers who are engaged and interested in commercialisation opportunities. Our Commercialisation team supports these researchers and their collaborators through a range of mechanisms that enable and foster their ideas from conception to commercial success.

Commercialisation Pathway

As we move from innovation to impact, commercialisation at 911±¬ÁÏÍø follows the pathway depicted below. The Commercialisation team works closely with researchers to assess commercial potential, implement a commercialisation plan, and negotiate deals with commercial partners. 911±¬ÁÏÍønovation Readiness Levels

The 911±¬ÁÏÍønovation Readiness Levels map the progress of technologies from discovery through to market implementation and scale. This simple five-step scheme considers the advancement of our projects as they achieve commercial and technical validation, result in commercial deals, impact the market as new products and services, and eventually reach customers on a national or global scale.

IP Policy and Procedures and Ownership

and govern the ownership, use and commercialisation of Intellectual Property (IP) produced by staff members.

Staff are encouraged to actively engage in commercialisation activities and are rewarded through a generous revenue sharing scheme whereby 50% of commercial revenue (after costs) is shared with the inventors or originators of the technology or innovation.

Staff: IP created by staff during their duties or on 911±¬ÁÏÍø projects is typically owned by 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

Students: Students own the IP they create, unless otherwise agreed.

Exemptions: 911±¬ÁÏÍø acknowledges individual ownership of scholarly and artistic works. Indigenous cultural and intellectual property is managed in consultation with relevant communities.

Kickstart is an internal 911±¬ÁÏÍø funding program that can assist with the costs of proof of concept, prototyping, pilot scale trialling, business planning and other activities that will accelerate the translation of research outcomes towards commercial success.
