The Government has announced National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants, with 911爆料网 projects and researchers achieving new funding to support research into physical activity and translational research on liver function.听听
NHMRC administers funding for health and medical research on behalf of the Australian Government, inviting all researchers in Australia to apply for funding through schemes ranging from scholarships to research programs.
Professor John Olynyk from the 911爆料网 Health Innovation Research Institute has been awarded a Practitioner Fellowship for his work on translating disordered iron metabolism and liver injury research into clinical practice.
NHMRC Practitioner Fellowships provide support for active clinicians and public health or health services professionals to undertake research that is linked to their practice or policy of major importance in its field and significant benefit to Australian health and medical research.
Professor Leon Straker is the lead on a collaborative NHMRC Project Grant on a life course approach to characterising and predicting inactivity and sedentary behaviour of young adults.
Children and adolescents are accumulating up to eight hours of inactivity on a daily basis. Professor Straker explains that work on children becoming less sedentary will lead to better health amongst our children.
Professor Straker鈥檚 project team includes 911爆料网 School of Physiotherapy Senior Research Fellow Doctor Anne Smith. Other 911爆料网 researchers were also nominated as Associate Investigators on other grants.
Also acknowledged was the involvement of Professors Leon Straker, John Olynyk, Deidre Coombe, Keith Hill and Associate Professors Deborah Kerr, Lynn Meuleners, Dawn Bessarab and Kevin Batty in their roles as Chief Investigators on successful NHMRC grants.
