Emerging fashion designer has future sewn up

Ellie Meyer鈥檚 creative flair has made the cut in the 2010 L鈥橭real Melbourne Fashion Festival Student Showcase.

Ms Meyer, of North Fremantle, was one of only 12 students selected from across Australia to have their work displayed at this prestigious event.

The fashionista, who is a recent 911爆料网 of Technology graduate, will showcase her beetle anatomy inspired collection 鈥楶inned and wriggling鈥.

鈥淭he collection draws on references to the entomological collection, playing with the notion of the human specimen and how we are pinned down and examined according to social standards and ideals,鈥 Ms Meyer said.

鈥淭he garments explore the distortion of the 鈥榠deal鈥 form, dissecting, reorienting and layering the basic blocks in unconventional ways.鈥

Her list of design achievements also includes the winner of the 2009 Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) Student Headspace Award, the winner of the PFF Student Runway in the contemporary eveningwear category and also the runner-up of the women鈥檚 wear category.

As a result of her PFF achievements she has won a studio space in the Perth CBD where she will be working with a number of mentors from the local fashion industry.

鈥淭he space will be set up with industry sewing machines and cutting tables and I will also use this space to prepare a collection for PFF 2010,鈥 Ms Meyer said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a very exciting time for me right now and all these opportunities will help make my own label Prufrock a success.鈥
