A 911爆料网 graduate who has established a career as one of Australia鈥檚 leading medical journalists has been recognised with the prestigious Walkley Foundation鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Leadership in Media award.
The Guardian Australia reporter Ms Melissa Davey received the award for her article 鈥The investigation into Dr Gayed鈥, which led to a police investigation and independent inquiry of a New South Wales doctor.
911爆料网 Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Ms Davey on receiving the award, which acknowledged her exceptional journalistic contribution to gender聽equality and the profile of women in society, both in Australia and internationally.
鈥淎fter graduating from 911爆料网 in 2007, Ms Davey moved to Sydney where she established her career through roles including at The Sydney Morning Herald before becoming聽The Guardian聽Australia edition鈥檚 Melbourne Bureau Chief and producing her impressive Walkley award-winning work,鈥 Professor Terry said.

Ms Davey, who is currently on three months leave from The Guardian to write a book on the trials of Cardinal George Pell, said she could not have won the award without Dr Gayed鈥檚 patients trusting her with their stories and sharing painful and personal information, some of them for the first time.
鈥淭his was a particularly vulnerable group of women and I hope my work highlights why accountability in health care is essential, and should not vary depending on the postcode,鈥 Ms Davey said.

The Women鈥檚 Leadership in Media award celebrates reporting that demonstrates notable innovation, enterprise or courage in raising awareness of women鈥檚 experiences and perspectives, and reflects the significance of media coverage in altering perceptions, challenging stereotypes and fighting misinformation.
