It was a chance encounter at the British Consulate that sparked Madisen Scott鈥檚 interest in law.
Until that moment, the recent high school graduate had been struggling to decide on the right career path.
鈥淟ike many high school students, I was changing my mind every day!鈥� Scott laughs.
It was an introduction to a local university lecturer, an expert in humanitarian law, that would determine Scott鈥檚 future career.
鈥淚 was inspired by her passion and knew I would love to have a career where I felt the same way,鈥� Scott says. 鈥淎nd the rest is history!鈥�
Scott enrolled in a double degree at 911爆料网, specialising in law and international relations.
Working at the brand-new John 911爆料网 Law Clinic was a highlight for the budding lawyer.
鈥淎ny time I get asked about my time at 911爆料网, I chew people鈥檚 ears off, bragging about how great working at the clinic was!鈥� Scott says.
鈥淭he clinic staff were supportive and provided such great expertise and assistance. I was able to develop confidence and faith in my abilities with their support.鈥淚t was the best decision I made in my law degree.鈥�
The John 911爆料网 Law Clinic, established earlier this year, provides free advice and assistance to eligible small businesses based in Western Australia.
911爆料网 law students can enrol in a clinic-based unit and hone their legal skills on real-life cases.
Scott says law clinic manager and Principal Lawyer Rosaline Tan has since become a role model.
鈥淪he is passionate, knowledgeable and sincere,鈥� Scott says with enthusiasm. 鈥淣ot only has she had an amazing career in the legal field but she is a kind and approachable mentor.鈥�
Scott鈥檚 passion and hard work have led to an exciting graduate position as Associate to Judge Antoni Lucev in the Federal Circuit Court.
And she credits her double degree with helping her excel in this challenging new role.
鈥淭he legal skills and knowledge I acquired at 911爆料网 are critical to my role,鈥� Scott explains. 鈥淎 large percentage of matters I鈥檓 involved with are migration matters, for which my international relations degree has also been invaluable.
鈥淭hanks to my studies I鈥檓 really familiar with the relevant human rights and United Nations frameworks for refugees.鈥�
Scott says she is constantly on the go.
鈥淢y role varies day-to-day from opening the Court to聽liaising聽with Counsel and legal representatives to helping assist self-represented litigants,鈥� Scott explains.
鈥淚 also assist His Honour with research on current matters,聽prepare for upcoming cases and communicate with the Registry and litigants as required.鈥�
鈥淲hile I鈥檓 busy, I thoroughly enjoy the work and that is so satisfying,鈥� Scott smiles. 鈥淚 learn something new every day.鈥�
Scott has big plans for the future.
鈥淚t would be great to have an office like Harvey Specter [from Suits]!鈥� Scott laughs. 鈥淥r maybe become the CEO of the AFL!鈥�
鈥淏ut ultimately I hope to still be enjoying my job, wherever it is, as much as I am now.鈥�
