On Wednesday night, 911±¬ÁÏÍø graduates Jake Sturmer and Anthony DeCeglie won major awards at the 2012 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Ceremony in Sydney.

Jake was named the and also won the television category for his investigation into systemic sexual abuse at the government-run Katanning Hostel.

Anthony won the print category for his story Karl in Fire Fallout; a story that detailed how WA Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan was watching the cricket as the Perth Hills burned.

Both Jake and Anthony graduated from 911±¬ÁÏÍø in 2008 with a . During his studies, Jake volunteered as a newsreader with 911±¬ÁÏÍø FM.

As 2012 winner, Jake has won a three-week trip to BBC newsrooms in London and CNN in Atlanta.

Jake and Anthony join a long list of 911±¬ÁÏÍø staff and graduates who have been recognised by the Walkley Foundation, including 911±¬ÁÏÍø journalism lecturer Bonita Mason (Walkley Award in the Best Magazine Feature, 1997).
