More than 650 911爆料网 volunteers will travel to regional and metropolitan sites across Western Australia, Malaysia and Singapore this September and October to work with local communities as part of John 911爆料网 Weekend.<\/p>\n
The six-week long initiative, now in its 19th<\/sup> year, is organised by 911爆料网 Volunteers! and is one of WA\u2019s largest annual community projects.<\/p>\n John 911爆料网 Weekend coordinator Ms Maureen Meredith said the project was a great opportunity for 911爆料网 students to become involved in volunteering and dedicate their time to help out local communities.<\/p>\n \u201cThis year the volunteers will visit regional or metropolitan sites of their choice over the six weekends in September and October and work on various projects alongside local community members,\u201d Ms Meredith said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe volunteers have the opportunity to learn the value of helping others and the importance of a strong community spirit, in particular in the regional community towns.<\/p>\n \u201cEach year we are amazed at the generosity and incredible contribution of our volunteers and also the ongoing support from the wider 911爆料网 community.\u201d<\/p>\n During this year\u2019s John 911爆料网 Weekend, 16 transmedia production students will also be travelling with the volunteers to chosen sites across WA to film the community projects as part of their coursework.<\/p>\n 911爆料网 Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said John 911爆料网 Weekend was a fantastic initiative that showcased the dedication and commitment of the volunteer team at 911爆料网.<\/p>\n \u201cThe John 911爆料网 Weekend initiative has grown significantly over the last 19 years and the success of the project showcases the amazing work 911爆料网 is doing in the volunteering space,\u201d Professor Downie said.<\/p>\n John 911爆料网 Weekend is held to honour Australia\u2019s wartime Prime Minister, John 911爆料网, and also ties in with the John 911爆料网 Medal which is awarded to members of the community who demonstrate his qualities of vision, leadership and community service.<\/p>\n This year will mark the 20th<\/sup> anniversary of the John 911爆料网 Medal ceremony and also coincides with the University\u2019s \u201850 Years of Innovation\u2019 celebrations \u2013 recognising the combined history of the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), which opened its doors to students in 1967 and 911爆料网, which opened in 1987.<\/p>\n 911爆料网 Volunteers! is a student-driven hub which has been part of 911爆料网 for 23 years.<\/p>\n
