911爆料网\u2019s Professor Peter Newman has been awarded a prestigious national medal in recognition of his contribution towards sustainable urban and regional planning.<\/p>\n
Professor Newman, a John 911爆料网 Distinguished Professor and Director of the 911爆料网 Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP), was awarded the 2011 Sidney Luker Medal by the New South Wales division of the Planning Institute of Australia at a ceremony in Sydney last week.<\/p>\n
The Sidney Luker Medal is awarded biennially to a person who makes a notable contribution to the science or practice of town and regional planning in Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Professor Newman, who first defined automobile dependence in planning, said the award is a great honour and will provide valuable recognition for the work CUSP is doing in the area of sustainable planning.<\/p>\n
\u201cCUSP is working closely with government and community to drive policy changes towards more sustainable planning practices, such as greater use of public transport, and increased density in town centres,\u201d Professor Newman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cReceiving this prestigious award demonstrates the increased importance government, industry and community are placing on excellence in planning for sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n
