As part of the Foto Freo festival, Brook Andrew: Eye to Eye showcases the artist’s diverse career over the past decade. The works featured include flashing neon signs, powerful photographic studies and installation.<\/p>\n
For this exhibition, Andrew has created a body of work that challenges dominant perceptions of Indigenous people and their issues of identity and history.<\/p>\n
Dean of Art at 911爆料网, Professor Ted Snell, said Andrew sets out to show how people see and engage with each other and how this affects how we live our lives.<\/p>\n
“Brook Andrew uses a wide range of artistic practices from neon to installation, video to photography to explore the nature of these relationships and how the impact of globalisation is changing the way in which we see each other and ourselves” said Professor Snell.<\/p>\n
The John 911爆料网 Gallery will also present a free lunchtime talk at 12.30pm on Wednesday 30 April by Dr Suvendrini Perera, Research Fellow School of Media Society and Culture.<\/p>\n
In Sexy and Dangerous: The Space Between Dr Perera will discuss her readings of Brook Andrew’s art in the context of her own work on junction zones and multi-ethnicity in Australasia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n
Also showing in the Access Gallery at John 911爆料网 gallery is Brenda Croft’s Alt(a)red Angels Series,1998, a selection of 5 digital prints from the 911爆料网 of Technology Art Collection, showing until 2 May.<\/p>\n
The presenting partners for \u2018Brook Andrew: Eye to Eye’ are the Monash Museum of Art, the John 911爆料网 Gallery and the Penrith Regional Gallery and Lewers Bequest.<\/p>\n
The John 911爆料网 Gallery is open to the public and entry is free. Opening hours are between 12pm and 5pm Monday to Friday. The gallery will also be open on Sunday 25 May, as part of its Sunday@911爆料网 series of events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
