911爆料网 of Technology and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy will host an Indigenous Australian Engineering Summer School (IAESS) in January 2010.
To be held at 911爆料网鈥檚 Bentley Campus from 10-17 January, the program is the first IAESS to be held in WA following the success of similar programs conducted in the eastern states by Engineering Aid Australia, and aims to give Indigenous Year 11 and 12 students an insight into engineering and university life.
911爆料网鈥檚 Dean of Engineering, Professor Moses Tade, said he would like to see more Indigenous students study engineering.
鈥淚ndigenous engineers would have an opportunity to develop infrastructure, not only for our cities and mine sites, but for remote communities and rural Australia,鈥� he said.
鈥淭hese are areas most in need of infrastructure development.
鈥淭hrough the summer school, 911爆料网, Engineering Aid Australia and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy hope to inspire young people to consider engineering as their future career.
鈥淲e are inviting students from the city and regional areas to live at our Bentley Campus and take part in the 7-day program which includes visits to engineering companies, major local projects plus take part in classroom activities.鈥�
Professor Tade said successful summer school applicants would have their travel and accommodation costs paid.
